When getting ready to go onstage, there are plenty of steps a performer has to take to make sure their makeup and hair are set to stay under the bright, hot lights. But here’s one aspect of a singer’s glam you don’t always think about: the scent they choose to take with them when they step out in front of a crowd.
Take Byrdie covergirl Kelsea Ballerini, for example. We can see her pretty blonde hair, her glittery shadows, and her classic manicures—but what sensorial experience is she having up there? Thanks to her makeup artist, Brittany Leslie, we have an answer.

Kelsea Ballerini’s Onstage Perfume
While breaking down Ballerini’s glam for a tour stop in Fort Worth, Texas, Leslie dropped some information on the perfume the artist has been wearing.
“I loved spritzing Kelsea with Phlur’s Golden Rule fragrance before the Meet & Greet tonight. It’s feminine and warm, just like her,” she said.

One of our favorite new beauty launches this January, Golden Rule is a fruity-floral scent that was created to “capture the art of attraction” with notes like mandarin, pink pepper, and golden pear up top, a heart layer of orange flower water, jasmine blossom, and coconut milk, and benzoin, sandalwood, and vanilla cream at the base.

Golden Rule Was Formulated for the Spotlight
When announcing the new scent, Phlur shared language that called out the scent’s major magnetism. “Attraction, boldness, confidence, and radiance in a bottle,” read one ad.
“For Golden Rule, we were inspired by personal evolution and growth—embracing the lessons from your past and celebrating the highs and lows that have shaped you, bringing wisdom and meaning into your life. Using these lessons to grow and step into your next evolution—your golden era,” explained Phlur creative director and co-owner Chriselle Lim in an Instagram post when the scent launched.
It’s a good choice for someone in the spotlight, no? Or someone that just wants to fully embody their own groove, whatever that might be. Spritz well, throw on your favorite Ballerini song, and (obviously) stay golden.
